5 Tips To Help Conquer Any New Challenge

The benefit of trying new thingsphoto credit

There were no mats. Just little pieces of rubber flooring on top of cheap carpet. I was the least athletic of the three of us, and we had never heard of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu before I got on the ground that very day 4 years ago. Kenny, a top shelf athletic ex-wrestler I had just been introduced to, mounted me right away. He smothered my face, pushing my body into the ground with his hips. Just as I could take no more, he suddenly slid off my chest, giving me room to gasp for air. However, that momentary relief was immediately replaced with the sharp pain of my arm being hyper extended in an arm bar. I tapped as fast as I could, yelping…

Success in 2009 Starts with Today!

The time is now to make a change!

EEEEH! EEEEH! EEEEH!….

I was awoken this Friday morning by the 5 am alarm clock on my iphone. As I wiped the crust from my eyes and stumbled into the bathroom, I realized that today was really the 1st day in 2009. I turned on the shower, debating whether to really count the 1st, which is more of a holiday than a typical day. Now that that was over, I had to once again teach a Muay Thai class at 6 am, just like the Fridays of last year.

As the water warmed, I stepped in the shower and thought about why this is considered a new year. I mean, yes the calendar has changed, and the dates on my checks will have 2009 on them, but other than that, what exactly is new? My routine is still the same. Nothing significant has changed in my life, and yet I am supposed to be excited for 2009?

Anger Management: The Secret Strength of Diplomacy

Temper Temper

I swear on my life itself, if you don’t read this post in its entirety, stumble and comment on it, I am going to find you wherever you are and we will see if you EVER dare skip through a post of mine again. You HEAR me?! Now GET TO IT!

10 years ago, that probably would have been my approach as a blogger.

I had that bad of a temper. I could not deal with people thinking they were getting over on me, or someone who thought they were better, smarter, faster, stronger, or whatever.  I was ready to fight over anything, because I thought that was how I had to be.

Then, right after my freshman year of college, a strange twist of fate occurred.

Fatherly Advice from Tiger’s Dad

Tiger Woods is one of the greatest athletes of our time. The man has pushed the boundaries of his sport all while maintaining full integrity with the whole world. He is an inspiration to us all

I came across this Nike Commercial on the net and was floored. As only a father can, Earl Woods explains how Tiger grew to be the man he is.  The theme is every dedicated, living dad can make a difference, one child at a time.

We can all learn something from this advice.

The True Quality of Greatness

All great people have one quality in common.

What does it mean to be truly ‘great’ at something?

People talk all the time about how they want to be great, but what exactly are they hoping for?  It’s not always the same b/c people’s definition of greatness varies.  However, there is one quality that is found in all great people.  It is the one quality that we all should strive for as our top priority, yet many of us never do.

Before we get to the quality though, let’s define greatness.  Oxford American dictionaries defines it as ‘the quality of being great, distinguished or eminent.‘  Basically I would interpret that to mean being well known for your continued success.  To be great, you have to be better than everyone else.  You have to raise the bar to a new level of success by continually winning time and time again.

10 Reasons to Be More Confident in Yourself

Confidence is something completely controlled by YOU!

The number one problem I think most people have is a lack of confidence.  So I have come up with a list of reasons why everyone should be confident in themselves.  Be proud of who you are by understanding exactly what, who, and where you stand in the grand scheme of things.

This list is based on a theory of mine.  The theory goes something like this:  We are all living during this time period on the earth.  Everything right now seems of major importance.  There are wars all over the world, hunger, crime, terrorism, corruption and all sorts of terrible things.  Each day, the news brings up the devastating events from the day before.  For each person involved in those events, the memories can scar for a lifetime.

The Secret Ingredient to Everything You Want in Life

Self Discipline & Motivation are a deadly comboWhen I read a title like the one above I always laugh at the finality of it. It makes it sound as if your life will be changed forever into everything you ever dreamed simply by reading this. As if reading something can have that significant of an affect on someone.

Well what if it could? What if I told you that not only by reading this, but by actually following it, you can have anything you want in life? Anything at all. Would you believe it?

Me neither, so I’m not making any drastic promises.

But I am going to tell you that the following, although not much of a secret, can help you achieve any goal you have. I am going to talk about a not so secret key to everything you want in life. It is called ‘Self-Discipline’, something we all could use a little more of.

The Incredible Power & Challenge of the Mind

The mind is an incredible power that needs to be used properly.I always speak about the unlimited power of the human mind. With great power comes the need for great control. That’s why the mind is only great if it is used properly. If it is not understood, the mind can create limits that cause the illusion of entrapment.

Our mind is an incredible tool. Think of how many thoughts go through our head as we are reading this paragraph….

Do you like it? Should you keep reading? I read something similar. I wonder what this guy looks like?

All this just in the back of your head while you read. Your mind produces an incredible amount of thoughts per day…

It’s What You Have, Not What You Don’t

I came across this video on YouTube and had to share. It is another inspirational video about a person who overcomes obstacles others couldn’t even imagine. The story is about Patrick Henry Hughes, and his dedicated family.

Life would be so much better if we only worried about the things we have, and not the things we don’t. It may not be how we intended, but that does not mean it can’t be everything we ever dreamed.

Enjoy….

A Key to Finances: It’s Your ‘Outcome’, not Income that Matters.

It\'s your \'outcome\', not your income. Most people out there always talk, or worry about how much money they make. They compare salaries for jobs. They get second jobs to supplement their income. They leave jobs to go make more elsewhere. Everything they do in life is based on the final end of year income. How much did that W2 or 1040 claim you made for the year?

Well, I’ve learned that this is the absolute worst way to judge your financial situation. In fact, it doesn’t matter how much you make. Your financial situation has very little to do with your income. It has everything to do, though, with your expenses, or what I like to call your ‘outcome’.
