I bet many of you know that Steve Jobs is the CEO of Apple. However, I bet a lot of you didn’t know that he was fired from Apple too. This inspirational speech he gave to the graduating class of Stanford is filled with priceless advice from the life experiences of one of the greatest entrepreneurs of our time…
In my last post I told you how I got my ass kicked on a regular basis. I’m sure you had a laugh. Such is life. Another childhood story about courage.
I’m sure many of you have a brother or sister, cousin or family member whose aim in life was to torture your existence. I have older boy cousins. They are about 10-13 years older than me. Their idea of fun when we were little was things like, filling my sneakers with tadpoles, driving me on a snowmobile and flipping it on purpose, to shooting BB guns at me as I run for my life. Those BB’s hurt like hell!
The social interactions between human beings on a daily basis are quite interesting to me, especially when a funny wrinkle is tossed into everyone’s monotonous day.  But what amazes me most about this video is the inspirational effect a small, simple sign can have on such a large crowd. It definitely made me smile.
Growing up I was always rather shy. I got picked on a few times in school. It wasn’t as if I was really afraid of other kids, rather, just unprepared. One time when I was young an older kid on our block used to pick on me relentlessly. I mean this kid would take ice cream out of other kids hands (I grew up in Brooklyn and there was a whole army of these type of kids)…Anyhow one day this kid made my little sister cry (mind you my sister was 3 and I was 8 ) I can’t remember specifically what had happen, but we got into an altercation over it and he punched me in the chin. It didn’t hurt all that much. For some odd reason I didn’t hit him back. My grandfather was standing in the window. I was shocked more than anything I guess. Probably a little too young to have an inflated ego to mend. Old enough to know that I just got punched by the neighborhood bully…
I try to display a video every Friday that provides some inspiration to our lives. All of them are great in my opinion (big surprise there :), but this one is on a whole different level.
Now, I understand in our society that giving up 10 minutes of your day to watch a video some stranger recommended on his crazy blog is not on the top of your list of priorities. But just for today, I am letting you know, that this is a top priority. In fact, it is the most important 10 minutes you will spend all day. It is 10 minutes you will not soon forget.
It always takes people facing the greatest turmoils to reveal the deepest truths in us all.
This is one last lecture you don’t want to miss. Enjoy the video.
Lance Armstrong has won more Tour De France races (7) then any other person in the history of Cycling, including consecutive wins from 1999-2005. Yet his greatest fight was not in any race. It was against an advanced form of Testicular Cancer. It started in his testicle and eventually spread all the way to his brain. He was diagnosed as having a 50/50 chance of living, never mind ever racing again. However, he took charge of his disease and fought it every step of the way. Sure enough, cancer found out something every other cycling competitor already knew….
Tony Robbins is one of my favorite Orators. He really emphasizes many of the points I strongly believe in, especially the idea of pursuing what you love. Nothing is more important to our well being than doing something we love each day.
One of the benefits of living in the information age is the availability of inspiringstories right on your computer. These inspiringpeople all seem to have one trait in common: They never take the ‘reality’ of a situation into consideration. They simply follow their innate desires, ignoring the entire world’s doubts, fears, and reservations. To them, those thoughts are worthless.
All that matters is their own belief in themselves.
Nothing encompasses this message better than the following story. It makes you wonder: what else may be possible? My guess is anything at all. Happy Fourth Of July to everyone. Enjoy the extended weekend.
Sometimes we can forget what’s really important in life.
It’s meeting people like John Challis that helps put things back into perspective. His message is Courage + Believe= Life. It is a message we should all live by every day of our lives. So go ahead and watch the video, but be forewarned:
Meeting John Challis will definitely change your perspective on life.
Tiger Woods is one of the greatest athletes of our time. The man has pushed the boundaries of his sport all while maintaining full integrity with the whole world. He is an inspiration to us all
I came across this Nike Commercial on the net and was floored. As only a father can, Earl Woods explains how Tiger grew to be the man he is. The theme is every dedicated, living dad can make a difference, one child at a time.
